Wizard World Con Philly 2009

Mon Jun 22, 2009, 9:45 AM
Having only previously been to the Baltimore Comic-Con I was so impressed by the sheer use of space at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. J and I went up with 2 other people on Friday and were in line when they opened at noon. Having pre-printed our tickets getting in was no hassle at all. When we first entered I first noticed how much empty space there was. I can't imagine there was more than 800 people there on Friday. There was room to walk around, and get good cosplay photos on the floor. I went off to see which celebs were available for signing already and managed to get to Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) without any problems or even lines, while J went off in search of the Wizard World Con exclusive Maxx figure, which he was also able to get without an issue. Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) was also pleasant and easily accessable. There were, as always an assortment of vendors selling 50% off trades, back issues Golden Age-Current. Artist Alley was a robust scene of fanartists, independant comic creators and a scattered assortment of mainstream artists. Fraco (DC Comics Artist & Writer "Tiny Titans") was doing custom sketches (in crayon) for just a dollar each!

I got a call late Friday night after our return from a friend with an extra ticket, so I made a second trip on Saturday with "Black Adam." Again, we went out in search of the exclusive Maxx figure, then we went and did a walk by photoshoot of Lou Ferrigno, (sorry, but the guy wants $10 to shake his hand, $20 to sign your item, $25 to sign something you buy from him, none of which features him as the HULK etc), we met Max Brooks (Zombie Survival Guide) and spent some more money (go figure).

Overall it was a great weekend, and I am very much looking forward to going back next year.
